A wintry weekend was suffered by all in northeastern Nevada, with a 42F temperature drop registered from Friday to Sunday.

Temperatures crashed over the weekend and slammed the Elko area with rain, snow, hail and thunderstorms, reports the elkodaily.com.

The mercury on Friday reached a high of 92F –around the average for the time of year– before tumbling to barely 50F by Sunday, according to National Weather Service data.

“Take steps now to protect tender plants from the cold,” advised the service on Friday, adding that “to prevent freezing and possible bursting of outdoor water pipes they should be wrapped, drained, or allowed to drip slowly. Those that have in-ground sprinkler systems should drain them and cover above-ground pipes to protect them from freezing.”

It is June, right…?

Parts of Spring Creek, located in central Elko in NE Nevada, were hit by multiple rounds of rare settling June snow over the weekend, culminating in a finale of thunder-snow on Sunday evening:

In fact, the entire western half of the North America chilled dramatically over the weekend, with that wave of anomalous Arctic cold now expected to intensify and shift eastwards through Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday:
