During the last week, Alaska's Shishaldin volcano produced one of its largest explosive eruptions in historic times. This sent a plume of ash in a sub-plinian eruption to a height of 42,000 feet.
Elsewhere, in Hawaii, the Kilauea volcano erupted anew, although only a fraction of its initial vents are still active.
And, in the Philippines, the Taal volcano produced a thick plume of volcanic smog known as vog amid an increasing amount of sulfur dioxide emissions.
